This policy explains what Glassora: Glass Widget (“the app”, “we”) does with information when you install and use it on your Android device. Please read it before using the app.

The short version

  • The app has no sign-up and no user account. We never ask for your name, email address or phone number.
  • Your widget designs, colours, backgrounds and settings stay on your device.
  • The app shows no advertising and does not use an advertising ID. The Android advertising-ID permission is deliberately removed from the app.
  • We do not sell your personal information and do not share it with data brokers.
  • Optional features (weather, contact widgets, notifications) ask for permission first, and the app works without them.

1. Information that stays on your device

The following is stored only in the app’s private storage on your phone. It is not uploaded to us:

  • Widget settings — the widgets you place, and their fonts, colours, gradients, blur, corner radius, chosen city label, time format and language.
  • Contact shortcuts — if you use a People widget (see section 3).
  • App shortcuts — the app you pick for a launcher-style widget. To show the list of installed apps, the app queries the launchable apps on your device; the list is never transmitted.
  • Device status shown on widgets — battery level and charging state, storage and memory usage, date and time. These are read when a widget redraws and are only painted onto the widget.
  • Cached content — quotes, wallpapers and weather results are cached locally so widgets can refresh without downloading each time.

Android’s automatic cloud backup is switched off for this app, so these settings are not copied into your Google Drive backup. Uninstalling the app deletes all of this local data.

2. Location and weather (optional)

Weather widgets need to know which place to show.

  • You can choose a city manually in the app’s weather settings. In that case no location permission is used at all.
  • If you instead grant location permission (approximate or precise), the app takes a single location fix, converts it to a place name for the label, and uses the coordinates to fetch the forecast.
  • Before the forecast request is sent, the coordinates are rounded to two decimal places (roughly a 1 km area) and sent to the weather provider Open-Meteo as part of the request. We do not attach any identifier to that request, and we do not store your coordinates on our servers.
  • Location is never used for advertising, profiling or tracking, and it is never continuously monitored in the background.

You can withdraw location permission at any time in Android Settings › Apps › Glassora › Permissions. Weather then falls back to the city you pick manually.

3. Contacts (optional)

If you add a People widget, the app asks for permission to read your contacts so you can choose which people to pin. When you pick a contact, the app keeps that contact’s name, phone number, photo and system lookup key in its local storage so the widget can draw the shortcut.

Contact data is never uploaded, shared or transmitted anywhere. Tapping a contact on a widget simply hands the number to your own dialler, SMS app or WhatsApp; the app does not place calls or send messages itself. Deleting the widget or denying the permission removes this use entirely.

4. Information sent over the internet

The app connects to the internet for these purposes only:

  • Weather — forecast requests to Open-Meteo, as described in section 2.
  • Content for widgets and the in-app catalogue — quotes, wallpapers, tutorials and “discover” items are downloaded from our content server (theplayground.dev). These requests carry only the platform name (“android”) and the app version. As with any internet request, the server receives your device’s IP address, which is used for delivery and basic abuse prevention and is not used to build a profile of you.
  • Push notifications — see section 5.
  • Analytics and crash reports — see section 6.
  • Purchases — see section 7.

5. Notifications

The app uses Firebase Cloud Messaging to send occasional notifications about new widget packs, features and updates. Firebase assigns your installation an anonymous messaging token; it is not linked to your identity.

The app may also show a low-priority ongoing notification when you turn on the reliable sync option, which keeps clock and live widgets updating accurately. That notification is optional and can be turned off in the app’s settings. You can disable all notifications from Android Settings at any time.

6. Analytics and crash reporting

The app uses Google Firebase to understand how it is used and to fix crashes:

  • Firebase Analytics — aggregated usage events such as which screens are opened and which widget types are placed, plus general technical data (app version, device model, operating-system version, country and language). Advertising-ID collection is explicitly disabled in the app, so no advertising identifier is collected.
  • Firebase Crashlytics — if the app crashes, a report is sent containing the technical stack trace, device model, operating-system version and the app’s state at the time of the crash.

This information is used only to keep the app working and to decide what to build next. It is not sold and is not used for advertising. Google processes it as our service provider — see Firebase Privacy and the Google Privacy Policy.

7. Purchases

If the app offers a paid upgrade or subscription, the payment is handled entirely by Google Play Billing. We never see or store your card number, billing address or any other payment detail. The app only receives the result — whether a valid purchase exists — so it can unlock the paid features. Refunds, billing questions and cancellation are handled through Google Play.

8. Permissions the app requests, and why

  • Internet / network state — download weather, quotes and wallpapers.
  • Location (approximate and precise) — optional — automatic weather location. Denying it does not block any feature; pick a city instead.
  • Contacts — optional — People widgets only.
  • Notifications — optional — update announcements and the reliable-sync notification.
  • Run at startup — so your widgets reappear and keep updating after you restart the phone.
  • Exact alarms & foreground service — so clock and live widgets refresh on time.
  • Ignore battery optimisations — optional — on phones with aggressive battery management, this keeps widgets from freezing. It is only ever requested with a dialog you can decline.
  • Vibrate — haptic feedback when you tap widget controls.
  • Billing — Google Play purchases.
  • Query installed apps — to list apps you can pin to a shortcut widget, and to open your dialler, browser, camera or messaging app when you tap one.

10. Data sharing and selling

We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for advertising or marketing purposes. Information is shared only with the service providers listed above, to the extent needed to run the app, or where we are legally required to disclose it.

11. Retention and deletion

Data stored on your device stays there until you delete the widget, clear the app’s storage, or uninstall the app — uninstalling removes all of it. Analytics and crash data are retained by Firebase according to Google’s retention settings (by default up to 14 months for analytics events and 90 days for crash reports). To ask for deletion of analytics or crash data associated with your installation, email us at the address at the top of this page.

12. Security

Data on your device is kept in the app’s private storage, which other apps cannot read, and sensitive local storage uses encryption. All network requests use HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect the limited data the app handles.

13. Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, contact us and we will delete it.

14. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU/UK, or the CCPA in California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export personal data relating to you, and to object to certain processing. Because the app has no accounts and stores almost everything locally, the fastest ways to exercise these rights are:

  • Revoke a permission in Android Settings › Apps › Glassora › Permissions.
  • Turn off notifications in Android Settings.
  • Clear the app’s storage, or uninstall the app, to erase all local data.
  • Email us for anything else — we respond to verified requests within 30 days.

Our legal basis for processing, where the GDPR applies, is your consent (optional permissions such as location, contacts and notifications) and our legitimate interest in keeping the app working and improving it (analytics and crash reporting).

15. International transfers

The services listed in section 9 may process data on servers outside your country, including in the United States. Those providers rely on their own safeguards for such transfers, such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app changes. We will post the revised version on this page with a new “Last updated” date, and we will announce significant changes in the app or on the Google Play listing.
